Fan Expo 2014 is finally here, and with the master schedule released not too long ago – it’s time to start planning your visit. The four-day event draws major crowds, upwards of 140,000, which means that Q&A’s, panels and other special events fill up very quickly. In order to get the best experience, plan and pick your sessions (then show up very early to guarantee a seat!) There’s plenty of great must-see events at this year’s Fan Expo, so if you’re attending – try to check out the following events!
Friday
Premiere Screening of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Rebels at 2pm in 102
Star Wars Rebels is a highly anticipated CGI animated series that takes place 14 years after Episode 3, but 5 years before Episode 4 (A New Hope). The series will start airing on October 3, but this will be a sneak peek at the series!
Monetizing the Web Series at 3:45pm in 715
Web series are very popular these days due to fewer barriers to entry, however, monetizing them remains a new territory for most small producers. This session will offer some tips and ideas on how to take your concept and production, and generate some revenue from it.
The Legendary Stan Lee at 6:30pm in 105
As the name says, the Legendary Stan Lee will take center stage for Fan Expo attendees! As a writer, editor, publisher, producer and crucial player in the development of the Marvel Universe, Stan Lee’s contribution to the comic industry is unmatched! He co-created Spider-Man, Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, the X-Men and many other legendary characters.
Saturday
Q&A with Nathan Fillion at 11am in 105
Nathan Fillion, a fan favourite, known for his roles in Firefly and Castle will answer questions from the audience on Saturday.
The Cast of Doctor Who Special Presentation at 6pm in 105
This is a special ticketed event, so you will need to get one to be able to attend – but Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will all be on stage to discuss all things Doctor Who!
The Legendary William Shatner Speaks at 7pm in 102
Say what you want about the former Priceline spokesman, but William Shatner is certainly one of the most interesting people to hear speak. Obviously well known as Captain Kirk from the Star Trek Original Series and in the movies, he’s also played one of my favourite roles – Denny Crane in Boston Legal.
Sunday
Celebrity Q&A with the Cast of the Walking Dead at 11am in 105
Several members of the show will be in attendance to answer audience questions about The Walking Dead, zombies, survival and anything else that you may want to ask.
International Cosplay Celebrity Jessica Nigri at 1pm in 206
Jessica Nigri came to my attention after YouTube interviewer Kassem G interviewed her many years ago (and continues to interview her year after year). The stunning blonde bombshell is a legendary cosplayer – combining sex appeal and nerd culture into the perfect package. She is always a crowd pleaser!
The Two Captains, Patrick Stewart and William Shatner at 5pm in 105
If you missed seeing Shatner speak on Saturday, make sure to attend this event that has both legendary USS Enterprise captains take the stage. I am sure Star Trek will be discussed! Plus, PStew is just the classiest person ever.
