Canada’s culinary space has always been diverse and delicious and it’s been getting more and more recognition. First, the MICHELIN Guide is set to launch in Toronto soon and now the World’s 50 Best Restaurants also has its sights even further on the Canadian F&B market. Canada’s restaurants are not only getting more attention but we finally have representation on the judging panel! How amazing is that?
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants appoints first ever Canadian chair
The incredible honour has been granted to Renée Suen, who shared on her Instagram today that she’s joining the global list’s panel as an Academy Chair. It’s exciting news for more reasons than one. Not only does this make Suen the first Canadian chair, but the addition is a representation of our very own city as well.
Suen is a food and travel journalist by trade, whose work can be found in many of the 6ix’s publications. This includes blogTO, Toronto Star, Toronto Life, Globe and Mail, and many others. Her experience also spans working as a recipe editor and as a guest judge on Iron Chef Canada.
“As the first Canadian chair, I’m excited to bring the Canadian perspective to this illustrious international panel and am committed to championing this delicious industry we all know and love,” Suen writes in her social media post.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 list was announced earlier this year in July in London at a live ceremony. The No. 1 spot was awarded to Geranium, located in Copenhagen.
