If you’ve never been a gym bunny or if you’re feeling uninspired with your usual workout routine, perhaps you just need to switch things up a bit to find the motivation to move your body. Try one of these bizarre fitness trends and maybe it’ll reignite your inner athlete – or you might just feel really silly. Either works…
Kangoo Jumping
This exercise is meant to burn twice as many calories as running without putting as much strain on your joints. But it involves some truly bizarre footwear. Kangoo boots look a bit like ski boots, but with egg-shaped springs mounted on the bottoms. Classes involve a high intensity cardiovascular workout that combines running, dancing, and jumping. Voga
Voga is a fusion of yoga and ‘vogueing’ (yes, the popular dance style from the 80s). Developed in London, voga combines the strength-building and mindfulness elements of yoga with a cardiac workout set to upbeat, retro dance tunes. Although there aren’t any voga classes in Canada yet, you can get a taste from this YouTube video…
Face Yoga
A fitness craze specifically for, you guessed it, your face. When performed regularly, this 20-minute program is said to take years off your appearance and provide a natural face-lift. In-person classes are available in New York City and London. But if you want to see whether a regimen of facial contortions can live up to these big claims, try following along with this video…
50 Shapes of Grey
50 Shapes of Grey is a workout routine created by NYC personal trainer Kristen James. The thrust of the program is that each move mimics an act described in the infamous erotica series. If you’re brave enough to give it a go, the DVD is available from Kristen’s website.
Backwards Running
