It’s Luminato time in Toronto and this year we were invited to an exclusive preview of the first ever “Carretilla Initiative”. First question that came to my mind was, what the hell is that? All I can say is thank God they did a proper media preview because once at this interactive foodie event, I clued in on what this was and how amazing this idea is!
So, first things first – what is this initiative? It’s an “art meets food” weeklong event where artist Rainer Prohaska was brought in to create abstract mobile kitchens intended to serve as food stations where people are invited to prepare and then partake in a meal. Confusing? I know. Cool Concept? Definitely. At the media preview, charming blogger Val Stachurski (www.ImCharmingYou.com) and I partook in the creation of “poppy seed gnocchi”. At each food station within the cleverly designed mobile kitchen, we each had to create one part of the dish (don’t worry, there are professionals on site to help you). This delicious dish was all made from scratch – yes we made gnocchi from scratch. Well in reality Karon Liu (aka The Grid food writer) made that part… Val was in charge of beets and I just filmed. The whole thing was fun, interactive and the end result tasted delicious.
This cool event is happening all week from June 9th to 17th at various locations around Toronto. Everyone is welcome to join in this artistic culinary event and I personally recommend it – first it’s fun and second, it’s free!
