We’re always on the look out for food trends, events and pretty much anything in between when it comes to living the good (and tasty) life in YVR. So when word landed in our inbox that the Fraser Valley Food Show was set to kick off another weekend of food festivities, we just had to do a little delving for ourselves. Word is, this one’s guaranteed to be bigger and better and will definitely help get you out of the house for an inspirational (and filling) afternoon starting October 4th and running through the 6th.
Among the smorgasbord of offerings at this year’s food show is the addition of the first Gluten Free Living Show featuring nearly 40 different gluten free product manufacturers, food producers and specialty chefs on hand to sample goods, offer tips and educate attendees.
This year will also see the addition of several new celebrity cooking personalities as part of the Celebrity Cooking Stage Series of demonstrations and seminars. Joining Cactus Club Café’s Executive Chef Rob Feenie will be Food Network Canada’s Season 3 Top Chef winner, Matthew Stowe, as well as Chef Corbin Tomaszeski (of Food Network Canada’s hit Restaurant Takeover).
The 6th annual edition of the culinary showcase aims to leave no appetite unfed with more than 100 food and beverage exhibitors on-hand to showcase their edible fare. More than 15,000 visitors are expected to attend the popular show that continues to attract food aficionados from throughout the lower mainland, celebrating 155 years of a bountiful Fraser Valley Harvest under one roof.
Other worthwhile points to note about the upcoming show…
– Savour the culinary creations from around the world as this food show places great emphasis on international specialty dishes and cooking techniques and competitions. There are also cheese seminars, wine and beer tutorials (and tastings) with the opportunity to check out the designated Wine, Beer & Spirits Tasting Pavilion for a more in-depth (and boozy) experience.
– The Bite of the Valley Pavilion will feature a top-notch selection of Fraser Valley restaurants on-site to showcase signature dishes… and if you’re still hungry, be sure to catch the inaugural Great Canadian Sausage Making Competition. That’s right: Saturday, October 5th will see dozens of professional sausage makers from throughout BC getting to work to create more than 100 different types of grill-worthy bites ranging from Bratwurst to Kielbasa. With a dozen different categories total, that’s a lot to bite into. No fear, you can wash it all down with a glass of Erdinger’s gluten-free beer. For the first 500 visitors, the chance to participate in the People’s Choice Award sampling of sausages is up for grabs.
The Fraser Valley Food Show is located at 1190 Cornell Street with tickets available starting at $7. Find more by visiting: fraservalleyfoodshow.com.
