While we were all waiting for spring weather, Friday Night Live at the ROM – sponsored this round by Ford Canada and the JUNO Awards – kicked off its 5th season this past Friday with the “Party of the Century,” celebrating the Royal Ontario Museum’s 100th anniversary.
Since its first season in April 2012, this Friday night event has become the go-to place for culture, drinks, food, and a little dancing. I don’t know about you, but past the age of 25 I didn’t dream of stepping foot in a club – but that doesn’t mean my feet aren’t itching to move!
Each week features a different theme, and the entertainment is always amazing; be it live bands on the Main Stage, or for a place to rest your feet and something a little more sultry, the Glass Room has some fabulous jazz, its own bar (much less busy than the other main areas), and plenty of seating.
Bronfman Hall is where it’s at if you like your hip-hop and R&B, while in the Rotunda it’s a mix of dance music and Top 40. You’ll always find your groove with the music they have blaring through the speakers scattered around the historic venue.
Ford Canada was showing off its snazzy wheels and partnered up with GotStyle in the Ford Lounge with their Kiss ‘n Tell Booth, where you could get a hair and makeup touch up and then snap a selfie with Ford vehicle photo bombs in full swing. A girl sure could use a little freshening up!
I was excited to see some new food vendors in the line-up, such as Me.N.U Food Truck (who carted their Asian arancini), and Liko’s Hawaiian BBQ serving up their Spam Musubi (think: spam sushi). But crowd pleasers, such as Little Tomato Catering and Hot Bunzz, also returned to feed the hungry. Most food vendors have a vegetarian option, and City Gourmet can be counted on for a gluten-free one.
For those who don’t have “happy feet,” you can always get a little hands-on – be it stroking coyote and fox furs to a little nostalgic arts and crafts with colorful pipeliners. Yeah, we took a trip down memory lane and made some friendship bracelet and tiaras. Everyone can use a little sparkle.
A night at the museum is the place to be on a Friday night. After all, where else can you party with dinosaurs or walk on the moon while slugging back a cold brew…?
Will you be partying with the dinosaurs tomorrow night? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @ViewTheVibe.
