It’s back for another fabulously indulgent year of food, wine, fun and everything in between. Whistler’s ultimate excuse to let loose and party: Cornucopia kicks off next week (November 7th to 17th) and we’ve scoured the endless list of offerings to come up with our own top picks…
First on our list: head to the House Party and gear up your palate to celebrate all things Argentina. This event promises to be a big success, knitting together the passion of Latin American culture, cuisine and (duh!) wine for a night full of flair. What goes better with big, bold Argentinian wines than juicy steak? There will be plenty of such delectable offerings courtesy The Four Season Hotel’s talented culinary team at SideCut.
We’d be remiss not to urge you to grab tickets to the CRUSH Gala Grand Tasting event. This massive event takes place at the Whistler Conference Centre and is definitely where you’ll want to be come Friday, November 8th and Saturday, November 9th. Eat before you go though – food can tend to run out and with hundreds of wines to sample, you’ll need something in your belly to soak it all up.
To balance things out, this years festival is set to offer a brand new experience, meant to erase the stigma associated with this food and booze dominant celebration. New to the scene is Cornucopia’s block of 35 different ‘Nourish’ events, seminars and experiences.
As part of this new selection, score yourself a spot at the Farmer’s Table Workshop and sample local fare prepared by chefs who’ll be on hand to teach you more about the farm-to-table concept of eating. Learn about healthy, sustainable foods you can introduce into your daily diet with inspirational ideas.
Speaking of tables, another VTV pick has to be Feng Shui: The Art of the Table workshop where in you’ll learn all about the ancient Chinese art based on flow of chi, yin and yang and how it affects health and well-being. A quirky-but-cool concept to learn more about what’s good for the soul.
After long nights of indulgence at the various wine dinners, tastings and late night fetes, we think Cornucopia-goers should consider partaking in the Nourish Series morning Meditation or Yoga sessions. Both take place at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler and are guaranteed to have you feeling Zen and balanced for the day of debauchery ahead.
For those hardcore microbrew fans, book a spot at the table to partake in Black’s Pub’s Law of Attraction on November 16th. It’ll explore the love affair between food and craft beer with Whistler Breweries’ own Matt Dean on hand to present.
Say Ole! And grab breakfast bites with a Latin twist at the Mexican Corner. This event is definitely one for the foodie and will feature a bottomless buffet with Mexican favorites, fresh seafood, sangria, specialty coffees and drinks, and more.
