Get your Plant on: Reasons Why You Need More Houseplants

While 2020 was certainly the year of trying out new hobbies for most of us, we did see the return of an age-old past time, plant keeping. Many of us bought them just to see what all the plant hype was about, and oh were we not disappointed. If you have yet to jump on the bandwagon, let us discuss a few of the many reasons you need to add a few (or more) green quarantine companions to your life.  Bringing a piece of nature into our homes as houseplants is not just aesthetically pleasing, but can also inflict a multitude of benefits to our health.

Houseplants Reduce Stress

We all know how refreshing and calming a walk through the park or forest can be. Well living with plants in our home can have the same effect! When we care for plants in our home we are nurturing our connection to nature while creating a calmer, more content space and mind. Take a breath and envision you’re in a lush rainforest while feeling the leaves of a Monstera plant from Promise Supply

Natural Humidifiers and Toxin Removers

Plants increase humidity by releasing water vapor into the air. This helps to combat that nasty, dry winter weather that can cause issues to our skin and respiratory health. Certain types of house plants are better than others at removing toxins from the air but nearly all of them are beneficial to air quality. Pick up a Peace Lily from Eco-Stems and soon you’ll be breathing in freshly purified air.

Houseplants Encourage Mindfulness

Tending and caring for plants brings a moment of stillness to our days. Getting lost in the watering, pruning and admiring of our plants allows us to be present in the current moment. This relaxes our minds and easing our stress. Try out an Aloe Vera plant from Dynasty Plant Shop and get lost in that hypnotizing structure.

Houseplants Increases Productivity

Can’t focus on your task? Have writers block? Plants have all the answers! Filling your workspace with plants has been known to inspire creativity and spark new ideas. Tasks performed under the calming influence of flora have been shown to be done with greater care and accuracy. The simple act of looking at a plant can be a mood booster. Feeling better = working better. Pick up a Rosemary Plant from Sheridan Nurseries and allow the scent to keep you from getting distracted.

Feelings of Joy and Accomplishment

Those who have kept plants know of the absolute delight of seeing new growth on our plant babies. Seriously, it’s a proud parent moment. A sense of pride and achievement is felt when a new leaf sprouts up or when the miracle that is a flower bud appears. Pick up a low maintenance Spider Plant from The New Leaf and bask in your success when you spot those new blooms in a few weeks.
