Glenfiddich, the single malt whiskey brand, has been supporting the Canadian art scene for 15 years, with their Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Program. And now, they have selected Dean Baldwin Lew as the 2021 recipient of the 15th artist in residence. The Montreal-based artist has been awarded a three-month residency at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland.
Baldwin secured the spot amongst a competition of over 200 fellow artists. His art is well-known for being provocative and conversation-starters across different platforms. The $20,000 CAD prize comes with three months of income, travel costs and accommodations. And the most exciting bit? The opportunity to collaborate and create with other artists from around the world.
In addition to the income and travel costs, the selected artist also receives a materials allowance of approximately $9,850 CAD. The residence comprises of a small, Scottish farmhouse and inspiring studio space on the Glenfiddich Distillery grounds.
The artist is encouraged to create a piece of art that draws influence from the distillery and its surrounding environment. This can be anything from the Glenfiddich family history to the people at the distillery or the distilling process itself.
If interested, applicants can apply for next year’s program in January 2022.
