With more and more electric vehicles (EVs) taking their deserved place on Canadian roads, there’s been a notable increase in home-hunters seeking properties that can keep their green vehicles charged and ready to go. The result? A marked spike in demand for EV chargers in some of Canada’s major cities like Toronto, and the surrounding suburbs – and an increase in listings to match!
Real estate brokerage Properly dug into some recent real estate data to look at how EV-charged homes are affecting the market and found some note-worthy results.
Last year alone, the GTA saw year-over-year growth of EV-charged home sales up by 15%. Looking back just a few years, the increase is even more promising. In 2018, just 55 homes with EV chargers sold in the GTA. In 2021, that number had grown to 141. So, if you’ve had your eye on an electric vehicle but aren’t sure if having one makes sense in your living situation, don’t worry: there are more homes with EV chargers hitting the market in Toronto now than ever before.
Another bonus? Going eco-friendly can add green to your wallet, too. We’re seeing the median sale price of these types of homes rising rapidly. In fact, year-over-year, sale prices of homes with EV chargers increased by over 19% in the GTA. It’s clear that homes with EV chargers grow in value over time.
There’s no question: the GTA home market is delivering big on value and these homes are helping to keep the planet healthy, too. Check out these popular, eco-friendly home listings to get a better sense of what the market has to offer.
