Cherry Blossoms in High Park
The city of Toronto has officially announced that the Sakura trees at High Park will be open for public viewing! Throughout the pandemic, High park has seen closures and modified viewing to protect the city from further spread of the virus. In 2020 the entire park was closed to the public at the peak of the bloom and in 2021 the are was fenced off to prevent mass gathering; a disappointing two years to say the least!
“Thanks to the progress we have made confronting COVID-19, everyone will be able to come out and enjoy the cherry blossoms when they bloom this spring. When the peak bloom begins, I encourage you to rediscover the cherry blossoms in High Park and in cherry blossom locations across the city,” Mayor John Tory said in a statement.
If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse, the blossoms typically last for 4-10 days in late April or early May! Be careful if you plan to drive to High Park as parking will be restricted inside the parking lots to avoid congestion. You can also catch the blossoms on the city’s Bloom Cam which provides real-time 24/7 footage of the cherry blossoms for the public. You can find a link to the cam posted on the city’s social media channels soon.
