In an effort to help us lead more sustainable (and stylish!) lives, mall favourite H&M has just announced plans to launch a resale platform. This direct consumer-to-consumer resell destination will allow shoppers to buy and sell clothes from any brand, not just H&M branded items.

Called H&M Rewear, the platform will launch on September 7th and it’s all about helping prolong the lives of garments which in turn help keep landfills from filling up. That’s why the brand opted to be inclusive of all brands, and not just H&M. “We felt it was important to be inclusive of all brands in Canada rather than just limiting this platform for H&M products. We want to provide a destination for Canadians to become active participants in circularity and find new homes for garments from any brand in their closets. As this is a Canadian initiative, H&M Canada will be the first market to launch Rewear,” says Frédéric Tavoukdjian, Country Manager of H&M Canada.

“Although we offer garment collecting in our stores, we felt it was important to find a second way for our customers to recycle their clothing. With H&M Rewear, we are not only offering a place for Canadians to recycle and reuse products, but we are giving them a platform to become active participants in circularity and give a second life to their favourite styles,” says Géraldine Maunier-Rossi, Head of Marketing for H&M Canada in a release.
H&M Rewear is offering services that’ll help make the buying and selling process super smooth and easy to navigate. If a seller is selling an H&M product, they’ll be able to search H&M products directly by putting in the product number found on the care label. This will then will give them access to pictures, descriptions, and colours from previous seasons through the H&M search bar.
Because we shop with our eyes first, H&M wants to give a premium visual experience. To help us out, H&M Rewear will be offering first picture retouch on all listings. The brand confirmed to View the VIBE that, “Our customer service team will be working hard to have the turnaround time be within 24 – 48hrs pending on how many listings are sent for approval.”

To ensure that everyone recieves their order in a timely fashion, H&M Rewear has two shipping options. The free shipping option entails a flat fee for shipping that’s included the price of the item, and seller will have to arrange shipping on their own. There’s also an option where Rewear will charge a flat fee based on the buyers location that will be added at check-out for the buyer. As a seller, a shipping label via email will be sent when an item is sold.
Unlike other resale platforms, there are two different payment options. Of course, the seller can choose direct deposit payment but they can also opt for an H&M Gift Card with an added 20% value that can be redeemed at H&M online and in-store. H&M confirmed to View the VIBE that, “H&M Rewear will take a 15% commission on all sales however that is why we are offering an additional 20% top-up if the seller choices the option of receiving a gift card as their payment. Gift cards do not expire.”
