Is it a hipster thing to declare that we’re kind of really into the food scene that is springing up in Parkdale? Has everybody agreed on this already? Are we not hipster enough for saying it out loud? Mind = blown.
Cultural politics and hipster one-upmanship aside, Parkdale’s burgeoning small restaurant scene has a new player with flavours directly imported from across the pond. Having opened their doors January 8th, Small Town Food Co. is the culinary lovechild of childhood friends and industry vets Steve McKeon (Wrongbar) and Cameron Hutton (The Drake Hotel). Their menu boasts hometown commonsense dishes refined for the palate of a fervent urbanite foodie.
This re-imagined comfort food by Chef Tallis Voakes (formerly of Nobu in London, UK and more recently Regent Park’s Paintbox Bistro) adeptly combines a down-to-earth attitude with an uptown polish. The plates at Small Town Food Co. are both shareable and dinner size, with a price point that is decidedly accessible. Given that both owners have strong bar pedigrees, it should come as no surprise that the wine list is fantastic (hand-selected by celebrated sommelier Anton Potvin) along with a custom cocktail list that promises your liver everything from gin to whiskey.
Make sure to swing by Small Town Food Co. at 1263 Queen Street West in Parkdale, open every day except Tuesdays!
