If you know us here at View the Vibe, you know we love good food. And as luck would have it, eating our way around the city is a necessary part of the job… so yay for us! The world of fitness is one filled with oodles of choices and fads. We took some of the leg work out for you with this roundup of what’s hot in staying healthy right now.
CrossFit
Founded in 2000, CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that combines a range of different movements that constantly vary and are performed at high intensity. Its raise in popularity is thanks to shorter classes and diverse workouts that ensure you’re getting your sweat on.
Obstacle Courses
Gone are the days of hopscotch and jumping jacks. Thanks to events such as Tough Mudder and Spartan Race, obstacle courses have become a fight for survival as well as the most gruelling workout you’ll ever attempt. Companies such as The O Course offer weekly workouts based on extreme obstacle courses such as these. You’re gonna get dirty and a tad beaten up, but you’re going to feel like a frickin’ gladiator and that’s worth giving it a try!
TRX
TRX Suspension training was born in the Navy Seals so you know it’s going to kick ass. It leverages gravity and your own bodyweight to perform hundreds of different exercises that will target all your wobbly bits. The classes are fast-paced and tough, so get your game face on. TRX Team Training is exclusive to Goodlife Fitness.
Barreworks
Everybody wants a body like a dancer; lithe and lovely and light on the feet, right? Enter Barreworks, maybe the hottest workout in the TDot right now. The class combines fitness training, core conditioning, yoga and pilates to tone your tush and shape your limbs into something long and lean. Oh and there’s cool music, too.
Piloxing
Fusion workouts are becoming more popular and this one is right outta Hollywood. Blending pilates and boxing, this hybrid class promises to torch fat and sculpt muscles using core-centric, interval training. You are also required to wear boxing gloves which provides the perfect way to sweat away the aggressions of the week. Go get your Rocky on… but with class. Piloxing classes are held at 160 Spadina Avenue every Saturday at 1pm. Call 416-627-9225 for more details.
