While Pride Month initiatives are important, what’s equally as important is getting the conversation around inclusion and representation going within our own social circles and friend groups. One way we hold meaningful conversations is through sharing meals together and that’s why DoorDash has launched its Courageous Conversations campaign.
The campaign centers around Conversation Cards that provide folks with a way to explore different topics and help people feel more connected to their friends, family, and communities.
The DoorDash website reads, “We believe that conversations open minds and create change. We have partnered with influential voices in our community to create cards that encourage these conversations exploring four key themes that Pride inspires: Acceptance, Empowerment, Individuality and Community.”
This year, DoorDash partnered with community leaders to create cards that challenge perspectives and reflect today’s relevant topics. The cards this year were created by Canada’s Drag Race Winner Priyanka, beauty influencer and model Mina Gerges, and Raia Carey, Manager of D&I at Sick Kids, and Lance Chung, Editor-In-Chief for the Bay Street Bull to name a few.
“A lot of kids that used to watch me on TV have followed my journey and have seen me become a drag queen. I’m so thankful to be a role model and to have normalized drag for so many people. These cards are a tool to help us normalize our differences and be more open-minded and understanding of each other,” said Priyanka.
As part of the Courageous Conversation campaign, $1.00 from every order placed on Sunday, June 27 will be donated to The 519 up to $20,000, supporting them as they provide essential services to the LGBTQ2SIA+ community.
In a statement, Raia Carey shared, “When we show more love, it’s hard to push back with hate or anger. While sharing my story can be tough, it’s the sharing of stories that brings people in and changes how we interact with one another.”
Well-loved vegan spot Fresh Restaurants has also partnered with DoorDash for a second consecutive year to provide Torontonians with Courageous Conversation cards for free (limited quantities available) with orders placed on the DoorDash Canada app.
