Barbecuing is an excellent way of making delicious meals. It is a method where you cook different types of food such as vegetables, meat, and fish with close contact to heat in absence of a pan, or any cooking utensils. BBQ, also known as barbecue, is a technique that includes baking, roasting, smoking, grilling, and braising. The method involves cooking for long hours using low-temperature smoke.

A grill is a piece of important equipment needed to make a BBQ during your vacation. The kit contains a firebox, grill grates, and other different features depending on the purpose and design. As summer approaches and the weather gets warmer, grills are being cleaned and prepared for barbecues. Learn how to BBQ with this step-by-step guide.

First, let us take a look at different barbeque cooking methods;

Low and Slow Cooking

When using the method, food is cooked with minimal heat generated by the fire in the grill.  The primary purpose of this method of cooking is to make your food soft and juicy in a continuous slow mode.

Searing

Searing is a cooking technique where you place your food on the fire directly. The process takes a short time, and food becomes ready once it turns brown on the outer parts.

Steps on How to Barbecue

Here is a guide on the seven most essential steps on how to bbq.

1. Get a Grill or a Smoker

The first step of BBQing is to ensure that you have the right equipment needed for your cooking. Having a grill or a smoker is the best way to BBQ since you will get the best results in your cooking exercise. Since the cooking equipment comes with different forms and purposes, there are factors you should consider to achieve your cooking goals.

One of the primary factors to consider when using a grill is the type of power source you plan to use in firing up your barbeque. There are five types of grills you can get in the market. Some of the impressive devices to help you achieve an awesome BBQ include the Masterbuilt Electric Smokers, Pit Barrel Cooker, and the Dyna Glo Vertical Propane Smoker.

These types of grills are user-friendly and can use power from different sources. Besides, the BBQing equipment is not expensive for your budget.

2. Prepare Your Grill

After acquiring the cooking device, use the manufacturer guide to assemble it as you get ready to cook. It is vital to have someone assist you in making your grill stand more easily and firmly. Power your grill after you assemble it to ensure it is working and safe for use. However, if the device fails to work correctly, report any defect identified to the manufacturer.

If you intend to use a grill that has been previously used, it is essential to clean it first before using it for your cooking. This will help you get rid of any insects or germs.

3. Prepare Your Fuel

Wood chips are a common requirement for your coastline bbq irrespective of the barbecue equipment that you intend to use. The wood chips are vital in making a smoky flavor when cooking. Always avoid using work woods since some may contain chemicals used for treating them hence ruining the healthiness and taste of your food.

There are several wood chip flavors you can get in any barbecue accessory market. Such characteristics may include alder, pecan, oak, hickory, maple, apple, and mesquite. Once you get the wood chips, dip them in water for close to 20 minutes before you start preparing your meal.

Avoid putting the wood chips in water if you plan to use an offset smoker.

4. Get Your Food Ready

As you select the type of food for BBQing, always select a thicker piece if you are planning to cook fish or meat. This is to prevent your food from flaking when cooking. Nevertheless, use firm vegetables for your BBQ. There are different types of spices you can use when cooking your barbecue, but the most common is peppers, dry rub, and salt.

Dry rubs are a combination of several spices that includes powdered onions, salt, pepper, powdered garlic, cayenne, amongst others. Sprinkle your preferred spice on both sides of the meat then use a cling film to wrap it and refrigerate it for not less than 30 minutes to marinate.

5. Start-up Your Grill

As you continue learning on how to bbq, preheat your grill is one of the best barbecue tips before you start cooking. Close the hood for about 20 minutes after lighting up the fire. Preheating helps the machine get free from any hazardous germs and insects before placing your food on it.

The preheating process prepares your grill to be in a high state of heat before you introduce your food. This is because the food needs to begin cooking in a hot place.

6. Time for Cooking

BBQing is cooking your food in low indirect heat for an extended period. The process can take close to 4 hours of slow cooking on medium heat for your food to be tasty. Place your food on the grill grate directly above the water pan. Close the hood after ensuring the temperature are set between 200° F to 250° F.

At this point, you can now let your food cook for between one to four hours depending on the type of food you are cooking.

7. Ready to Serve

Once the set time is up, the food is now up for grabs. To come up with a perfect BBQ, you may find it beautiful to use sugar-based sauces. However, apply them at the end of your cooking since some burn very fast. Perform a carryover cooking method for approximately 15 minutes to your food to avoid overcooking.

If you were cooking meat or fish, place it on a flat surface for like five minutes before slicing it up. This is to prevent burning your fingers because it may be too hot to hold. Moreover, the waiting period allows the juices to settle for great enjoyment. A coastline bbq would be the best pick as you get to explore the beach and surf.

Essential Tips on How to Bbq

Your meat will be ready once it turns crusty and dark brown on the outer side, tender, and smoky in the inside. A well-cooked BBQ slice should pull apart rather than falling apart. To make your fish or meat get cooked at the right degree of heat, always use a meat thermometer to avoid serving a half cooked or overcooked dish.
