Selfies are dominating the world! As the name implies, these are the photos of yourself that you take by yourself, usually with a mobile phone. Everywhere you look, particularly on social networking sites, you’re sure to find numerous selfies. Why? Simply because it’s so convenient. Whether you’re alone or with a big group, it’s convenient to pull out your phone and take a photo.

But do you know how to take a good selfie photo? Often, these photos make it to your social media accounts and even as your profile photo. So, it pays to learn how to choose the best angles, whenever you’re taking a selfie.

If you’re longing for some help on this, here are some tips to guide you:

1. Look Up Towards The Camera

Looking up toward the camera is one of the best angles. This angle can also highlight a useful feature: your cheekbone. With this angle, you’re essentially slimming your face too. It has depth and dimension, which prevents the selfie, your photo, from looking too flat and circular.

Then, as you look up toward the camera, raise your eyebrows slightly to make your eyes look larger. But, be careful with this trick. If you already have bigger eyes, you may want to stay away from this strategy. If you’ve got makeup on, raising your eyebrows may look good with smoky eyes that make your eyes look smaller.

Before you take the selfie, think of something that genuinely makes you happy. This is the key to learning how to take the perfect selfie photo. A generic natural smile will always shine through, as will be evident in your photos.

2. Know Your Angles

Because you’re the one that’s holding and controlling the camera, you should make this work to your advantage. You have so much power in your hands to make your shot look good. So, this is something that you should naturally endeavor for. Did you know that there’s a science to angles? You must also consider the message that you’re trying to give out through your selfies.

For instance:

  • When your selfies are viewed from above, you may be perceived as weaker and in need of protection.
  • When your angles are positioned such that your chins are down and you look up through your lashes, you’re perceived as more innocent and less guilty.
  • When your selfies are viewed from below, you’re seen as confident, attractive, and friendly.

So, in balancing these out with the physical features of your face, ask yourself what message you are trying to get across to those who are viewing your selfies.

3. Bring Your Neck Away From Your Chin

This technique is one of the best ways for you to look slimmer, and to avoid having a double chin. When you extend your neck away from your chin, it creates the perception of a longer neck and a sharper jawline. In so doing, you look less heavy. Make yourself look more relaxed by pushing your shoulders lower.

To create an even more excellent selfie angle, you can do minor edits too, for example, to make yourself look a tad bit slimmer. But, remember that the key here is in making minor edits that’ll only enhance your look. Don’t do anything drastic that’ll have people thinking how different you look in person. One of the best apps to do this and to learn how to take the perfect selfie photo is FaceTune.

4. Answer The Question Of Whether Or Not You Should Face Front

As you go about taking your selfie, there’s also that concern about whether you should face front. When you say that you’re “facing front,” this means that you’re aiming your torso, toes, and head towards that person. This means that whoever is viewing your selfie will feel as if they’re on a face-to-face level with you.

Taking front-facing selfies works well when you’re on the lighter side. If you’re trying to use this angle to send a message across, you should know that you are basically giving respect to the one that’s viewing your selfie. Fronting makes you seem more sympathetic, open-minded, and trustworthy.

5. Hold Your Phone To The Side

Rather than holding your phone directly in front of you, hold it to the side. First, you look less heavy if that’s what you’re after. Second, it makes it easier for you to move your face and body around for a better and a more flawless angle.

When you already have this level of comfort through the space that you have in your photos, you’ve got more leeway to adjust your face to make yourself look more comfortable.

For instance, there’s an excellent trick for you to follow to make your mouth look less tense. You can open your mouth a little bit, just enough for you to have a small space to breathe through. This will make you look a little less tense. A bonus is that your lips are also going to look a little bit plumper.

Conclusion

With the tips given above, you’ll be the master of all your selfies. You won’t just post random, fast, and awkward photos of yourself. You’ll use the selfie tool to optimize and highlight your best self. Albeit only a photo, your selfies can say a lot about you to others. For many, this is where they get their first impression of you. So, at all times, you must strive to make every selfie count.
