Did you know that with over 20 million visitors per year, Magic Kingdom is the most visited theme park in the world? It’s safe to say that a Walt Disney World vacation is a popular choice for families, and for good reason.
Walt Disney World offers not only Magic Kingdom, but three more theme parks, as well as two water parks, the Disney Springs shopping center, and a variety of both daytime and nightlife activities.
With so much to do, planning a trip to Disney World can be tougher than you think! That’s why we’ve put together this guide, including everything you need to know when planning a vacation at Walt Disney World.

Plan Your Trip in Advance
Of course, every vacation requires a bit of planning. But because Disney World has so much to offer, one of the best Walt Disney World vacation tips that we can give you is to plan your trip thoroughly in advance.
In order to experience everything in Disney World, you would need at least 6 or 7 days. Now, if you don’t have that many days booked for your vacation, it’s not a problem. You’ll simply need to cut a few attractions from your list.
Let’s say, for example, that you’ll be visiting the Disney World parks from Tuesday to Sunday. For each day of your trip, you need to know which park you’re visiting, whether you want to focus on one park or buy a park hopper, and a list of the top attractions you want to hit on that day.
This will help you plan the additional details of your trip, including meals and FastPasses (don’t worry, we’ll get to that later).
Stay in a Disney Resort
There are countless resorts and hotels in Orlando that are within driving distance to the Disney parks. However, when you want to experience all the things to do in Walt Disney World, staying in a Disney Resort is your best option.
You’ll get special perks, such as Extra Magic Hours, where you have an hour or two in the park with limited admission. You also have access to free transportation to the parks via monorail or bus – some Disney resorts are even close enough to walk to the parks! Not to mention, you’ll get an extra dose of Disney magic, thanks to their top-notch service and amenities like breakfast with Mickey.
For the true Disney enthusiasts, there’s the Disney Vacation Club, a timeshare concept that comes with additional benefits such as annual pass discounts and access to Moonlight Magic special events. If you’re interested in buying into the Club, it’s best to do some research beforehand. Look into what’s the best DVC use year, as well as the pros and cons of this commitment.
Purchase a Disney Dining Plan
Walt Disney World is home to not only amazing attractions, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, magical characters, and world-class service, it’s also not just any theme park in terms of food. From casual food like Mickey ice cream sandwiches and turkey legs to Scandinavian pastries and beignets to stunning sit-down restaurants offering 4-course dinners, Disney World has it all.
To make things as easy as possible for their guests, Disney offers what is known as the Disney Dining Plan. With this package, you’ll simply scan your MagicBand or park ticket when you’d like a meal or snack, and you’re ready to enjoy.
The food at Disney World is fantastic, but it is expensive. With a Disney Dining Plan, you can save money and make meals and snacks more convenient for you and your family.
That said, it’s always a good idea to do your research beforehand. Though the dining plan can save you money, it’s not right for everyone. And the last thing you want to do is spend money on food that you’re not going to eat when you could be using that money on souvenirs and nightlife instead!
Reserve Your FastPasses
FastPasses are the golden tickets of Disney World. They allow you to skip the regular line and go through the FastPass entrance, which often means little to no wait times.
Gone are the days when you visited a kiosk within the parks to print a physical ticket that you would use as a FastPass at your designated time. Nowadays, it’s all done from the My Disney Experience app.
After you purchase your park tickets, pull up the app with your schedule in mind. If you’re staying in a Disney Resort hotel, you’ll be able to select your FastPasses 60 days in advance of your trip. Those staying off-site are given the option to select their passes 30 days in advance.
Don’t worry, you can modify these FastPasses at any time. However, keep in mind that they go quickly. If you have your heart set on riding one of the most popular attractions, such as Space Mountain, or a newer ride like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, you’ll want to get your FastPasses early and hold onto them.
Start Planning Your Walt Disney World Vacation Today
The key to planning a Walt Disney World vacation is to iron out as many details beforehand as you can. It’s okay to have breathing room and go off schedule every now and then, but if you want to get the most out of your trip, staying organized is a must.
Plan ahead, stay on top of things, but most importantly, relax and have fun – you’re headed to the most magical place on earth, after all.
