First, there were BB creams: “beauty balms” that acted as a primer, foundation, sunscreen and moisturizer in one. They originated in Korea, and we’re always excited about a trend that gets big somewhere else, if only for the novelty of thinking we discovered here it first. We’ve been all about Dior’s exceptional Hydra Life BB Crème SPF 30-PA+++ for quite some time, so we were totally on board when CC Creams, aka Colour Correction/Colour Control creams, came into the picture and promised to make our skin tone even more even. Could it get any better? Apparently it can. Introducing DD Creams…
While there are a million double D jokes to be made, DD cream apparently means “dynamic do-all cream,” which is what we thought BB cream was to begin with. It seems the main difference between a DD cream and a BB cream is that DD creams have extra anti-aging ingredients, which is something we can get behind. Nevertheless, your best defense against aging is really sunscreen, so if you’re already happy with a brand of BB cream, we suggest just sticking with it. DD creams haven’t saturated the market yet (you can get Julep DD Crème and OFRA DD Cream already), but by the time they do, we imagine there will already be an EE cream on the way. Vitamin E Energy cream maybe? Only time and the alphabet will tell.
