Single? Lonely? Frustrated? We got your back. As of Sunday June 21st, I am thrilled to announce the birth of Vv Magazine‘s new Sunday Toronto dating column: Sex & The 6ix. Ya – we’re going there.
I am a lucky woman. I have a wonderful boyfriend of four years who treats me like a goddess no matter how awful I look or crazy I get. But I was single for five years prior to meeting him, and I found it impossible to meet someone in this damn city. I was new to Toronto and knew nobody. Even at my job running a restaurant, where I was quickly exposed to many potential boyfriends, nobody enticed me. I tried eHarmony; that lasted a whopping three days. One snowy day I was introduced to the man I now call my best friend and realized that, while single is awesome, love is better.
Today I look around me and am surrounded by beautiful, intelligent, successful men and women who are single, looking and regularly frustrated by never meeting the one. In a multi-cultural city like Toronto, you’d expect dating to be easy. But it’s not, and too many ten-outta-tens can’t find the connection they’re looking for.
This is what inspired Sex & the 6ix, a dating column we hope will bring Torontonians together.
How are we doing this? We’ve partnered with Canada’s leading dating and relationship expert Jen Kirsch. Labeled Canada’s Carrie Bradshaw by Hello! Magazine’s Shinan Govani, her witty, conversational dating advice has graced the pages of ELLE, Women’s Health, Teen VOGUE, Cosmo, Globe and Mail and she is often seen on news and entertainment shows including Canada AM, Breakfast Television, Global’s The Morning Show, Cosmo TV, eTalk and more. Needless to say, the girl knows what she’s doing.
So here’s how it works: each week Jen will choose two people from submitted applications who she thinks may have some chemistry. We send the potential couple out to a restaurant with $150 to spend – because a little booze on a first date never hurt. The next day, Jen will interview each dater and ask the same (cheeky) questions to evaluate if the pair was the right fit. But wait! There’s a catch: the whole thing will be documented and published weekly for your Sunday reading pleasure.
Our first couple is all set to enjoy their first date at Queen West’s Mexican eatery Fonda Lola. Look out for next Sunday’s dating column for the deets on their date and hear if our first match is made in heaven.
Interested? Fill out the form that applies to you and we will set you up with a potential perfect match! With Jen’s expertise, we hope we can help you find love in the 6ix – or at least enjoy a nice meal.
Don’t be shy! Cheers to making some beautiful love connections!
