We loved them then and we still do now. Vv Magazine takes a trip down memory lane at the careers of MTV’s top television personalities, Jessi Cruickshank and Dan Levy.
Having both grown up with industry parents, television was a natural ambition for both Jessi Cruickshank and Dan Levy. Growing up in Vancouver, Jessi was the daughter of the host of CBC’s Alive: The Picture of Health, and used to do improv classes with Seth Rogan before making the move to MTV in Toronto. Dan Levy, son of the legendary Eugene Levy, had a brief stint on Degrassi before settling in as an MTV VJ.
Both Jessi and Dan started their VJ careers on MTV Live, until a little series called The Hills hit the airwaves. It was then that the bright-eyed comedians were given the opportunity to exercise their charm as hosts of The After Show, where they indulged fans of The Hills and, later, The City.
Unpolished, unprecedented and infinitely entertaining, Jessi’s approach to interviewing has turned her into one of Canada’s most sought-after television personalities. Dan is the co-creator and co-stylist for the CBC’s runaway success, Schitt’s Creek, where he stars alongside comedy heavyweights Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy.
Despite Jessi and Dan’s current fame, fortune and fabulous Instagram feeds, we can’t forget the formative MTV Live days, when the duo taught us that it’s more fun to poke fun at celebrities than to idolize them. So, after a lengthy tumble through the digital archives, Vv Magazine has compiled some of Jessi and Dan’s best moments.
