Kim Kardashian might single-handedly save the magazine industry… though her efforts have less to do with her hands and more to do with her derriere. The most famous of the “famous for being famous” crowd, Kardashian posed for the winter 2014 cover of Paper Magazine in not one but two dramatic butt shots — one more safe for work than the other. The profile shot features the reality star in a sequined dress with her well-known “ass-et” balancing a champagne glass — a recreation of photographer Jean-Paul Goude’s “Champagne Incident” photo. If the artistry is lost on you, perhaps the straight-up nude shot of Kardashian’s oiled butt facing the camera is more your style.
Kardashian took to Twitter to show off the Paper Magazine cover images yesterday, which were taken at a secret location in Paris back in September: “And they say I didn’t have a talent…try balancing a champagne glass on your ass LOL,” tweeted Kardashian. Her hubby Kanye West was clearly less impressed with his wife’s butt-ler skills, or more obsessed with her nude lady lumps, posting the bare butt pic of the mother of his child with the caption: “#ALLDAY.”

The cover of the magazine, which came out in print today, reads “Break The Internet Kim Kardashian.” Clearly, the editors aren’t even bothering to pretend their interest in Kardashian as a cover star has anything to do with relevance beyond the realm of Google image search hits. Truthfully, even before the question of “how much Photoshop was involved?” crossed our minds, the first thing we asked ourselves was, “Paper Magazine is still around?” And then, of course, we opened a link to the full article, “No Filter: An Afternoon With Kim Kardashian,” on PaperMag.com to see the full frontal shots of Kardashian inside. Yes, she shows of her breasts, too. We’re guessing, since photographer Jean-Paul Goude was involved, she thought full nudity would be more tasteful this time, even though she apparently regretted posing naked for Playboy back in 2007.
If the internet is killing the magazine industry, then perhaps Paper Magazine is hoping that releasing the cover images of Kim Kardashian early will get you out to the corner store to shell out $10.00 US for tangible copies of the print. We doubt there’ll be as many people willing to put a copy of the magazine on their coffee table as there interested in perusing boob and bum images online. We’ll even be erasing our Google search histories. Just one more look first…
Kim Kardashian isn’t exactly doing the feminist movement any favours by posing for these provocative pics, but she’s certainly doing her part to keep floundering publications in business — or at least help magazines like Paper make the transition to digital relevance.
