Last December, 120,000 people hit the two blocks between Queen and College on Yonge Street every week. Sure, the Eaton’s Centre obviously factored into many of the pedestrians’ plans, but that’s exactly why #LocalTOMRKT, running from November 29 to December 24, is such a welcome idea.
While Toronto urbanites and downtown-shopping suburbanites all hit the city’s main mall in the gift-buying month of December, the 7500 square-foot vacant lot at 335 Yonge Street is now a go-to hot-spot for bargain hunters and present seekers. The area will be turned into a new must-visit pop-up market for independent artists, designers, and small businesses who can rent a spot for the entire month — or at reduced weekly or weekend rates.

If you can’t find anything original to buy for your loved ones or — let’s be serious, yourself — at the Eaton’s Centre, the pop-up market will have an array of unique and kickass items and gifts to get the oh-my-gawd-I-lurv-it wow factor your holiday shopping clearly needs to win you points well into the New Year. With vendors hand-picked by market curator Natasha Singh, there’s definitely something for everyone on your gift list at #LocalTOMRKT.
Bonus points: the market is tented and heated, so you won’t have to freeze your buns off stuffing your sack full of prezzies, and there will be food trucks on site as a pop-up food court of sorts, too. Besides, you might not even make it to the Eaton’s Centre once you get started supporting local artists and entrepreneurs.
