Welcome to Mini Makeover Monday! In this weekly column, Bianca Teixeira, our new makeover maven, will find, test and report back on an assortment of small changes that can be made to your daily beauty and style routine that can dramatically change your look. Let us know if you try any of her suggestions and what kind of effect they had on you!
One of my most guilty pleasures has to be long, pointy, obviously fake nails. Call them what you want (talon, stiletto), but sharp nails are definitely having a moment and who could blame anyone for loving them?
Now, obviously, getting true-to-form talon nails isn’t something you can do easily by yourself – if you can then you’re a freakin’ superhero. You can always buy simple to apply falsies from your corner drug store, or you can venture to a nail salon and ask for the longest, pointiest nails you can handle.
Talon nails have the power of making fingers look long, tapered and unbelievably elegant as opposed to long square nails that can weigh down the hand and make fingers seem rectangular. No matter what hand gesture you’re making, well-shaped talon nails will make it look stylish and delicate.
But be warned: this style is not for the faint of heart. You will need to adjust everything to be able to work with these long nails. Typing (either on a smart phone or a laptop) will be different, makeup application will be a challenge for those who wear false eyelashes or use contacts, and make sure to add an extra 10 minutes on your morning routine if you plan on wearing anything with buttons.
If you have pretty steady hands, there’s a cool polish hack you can employ to give yourself the quick look of talon nails but without the length and sharpness. Coat your nail in whatever polish colour you want to flaunt. Take a neutral shade like nude, white or black and outline a V on the nail with the point pointing away from your hand. Fill the insides for a faux-talon look.
