If you had a chance to check out Alright Alright at Playful Grounds or Hard Luck Cafe while they were in town for NXNE, then you know how awesome this band is. Their shows at the Horseshoe Tavern, The Drake, and many other Toronto venues have always been a great time, even outside of citywide music festivals.
I can’t help but want to take off to California and surf when listening to their music. The guitar riffs and vocals are reminiscent of the Beach Boys with some Motown vibes. Make sure to download their most recent songs from the Valentines EP and Cellar Singles, Vol. 1 & 2 as they’re a great soundtrack to the summer. All are available to download for free on their Bandcamp. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
This year, I was also really excited to see July Talk at NXNE. The harsh and deep vocals of Peter Dreimanis blending with Leah Fay’s innocent and sweet voice makes a great combination, especially when it’s layered over bluesy rock and roll with subtle tones of modern synth.
It’s always refreshing to hear a band that grabs your attention like this. It keeps you wanting more. Some would say this is what makes you “feel” real, passionate rock music. Listen and see for yourself! Their self-titled full length is available to stream and purchase on their Bandcamp. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter for concert updates to keep yourself occupied until their first album drops later this summer on August 20th.
