Back in 2012, for Canadian Music Week, I began an internship for Dine Alone Records. The label had an incredible showcase at the El Mocambo in Toronto, including one of their newest bands at the time, The Apache Relay. Not only did they have an incredible performance, they are genuinely nice guys. Being from Nashville, I’m guessing it’s their southern charm. The band’s debut EP, American Nomad, is a great folk-rock record and is solid from beginning to end; the song “Home Is Not Places” being one of the highlight tracks. Listening to the record, it makes perfect sense as to why the band has opened for Mumford and Sons on more than one tour. Since the release in 2011, the album has continued to receive positive reviews as well as having their song “Power Hungry Animals” in last year’s film The Way Way Back.
After being in the studio, The Apache Relay is finally releasing their debut full-length record. The beginning of the year was a good start for the band, having their first single “Katie Queen of Tennessee” reviewed by Rolling Stone. If you’re a music buff, then you’ll immediately notice the echo in the song, which is referred to as the wall of sound. A few weeks ago, they released the music video for the new single “Don’t Leave Me Now,” which of course only builds my excitement. I’ve been told that the growth of the band both as musicians and individuals really reflects on the album. It includes a string section as well as an operatic singer to track, creating a fuller production giving a new and unique aesthetic to their sound. The self-titled debut will be released on April 22nd, but if you pre-order it on iTunes now you can instantly receive the track “Katie Queen of Tennessee.”
