So many of us have at least one friend who is known for giving great recommendations. I have one who does just that and has yet to disappoint. Among the films he’s recommended, the music list has been a little overwhelming and I’m just delving into it now. First up is Elli Ingram, and all I have to say is this is the first time I’m determined to come up with a musical term for love at first sight. Hooked? Love at first listen, maybe?
Anyways, Elli Ingram is now on heavy rotation on my iPod and I’m in love with her. Hailing from Brighton, UK, this 19-year-old lady is on the right track with her music. My first listen was the song “Poetic Justice.” Perhaps that should be yours, too…
Now being signed to Island Records, Ingram has two solid EPs under her belt. The Doghouse and Sober are two incredible records that I thoroughly enjoyed. I can’t help but think of Amy Winehouse when I listen to her voice. Her songs are different from each other in the sense that some are heavier with hip-hop while some may be weightier with jazz or pop. Needless to say, I don’t predict getting bored of her anytime soon.
Ingram’s voice is sultry and sexy, singing songs of self-reflection and of being young. There’s so much confidence that you can hear in her music, making it have that much more of an impact. If you need something refreshing, I couldn’t recommend Elli Ingram more. The tracks “All Caught Up,” “When It Was Dark,” and “Gangsta Blues” are three among many that will end up in your music library. Feel free to thank me in the comments below…
For all things Elli Ingram, follow her on Twitter and Facebook. Both the Sober and The Doghouse EPs are available on iTunes for only $5.99 each.
