The other weekend I visited Montreal to attend Osheaga for the third year in a row. This year, my friends and I parked ourselves on picnic tables with amazing views of the two main stages. On the rare occasion, we ventured out to other stages around Park Jean-Drapeau to catch some smaller indie bands. My one friend insisted we had to see Texan band Wild Child. He showed me their video for “Crazy Bird” and it was easy to enjoy it right from the beginning. There was whistling, sweet, and dainty male and female vocals with violin. This particular indie/folk/pop sound hits my sweet spot, and after last weekend I definitely consider myself a Wild Child fan. Not to mention, the music video for “Crazy Bird” is effing weird and I love it…
Wild Child’s set couldn’t have gone better for their first Osheaga performance. There was lots of energy on stage even though it was stifling hot in the middle of the day. The band was talking to the crowd, each played different instruments, and there were bubbles floating in the air. To top it off, lead singer Kelsey Wilson took a moment to express the band’s gratitude for such a warm Montreal welcome. I think anyone can agree that any band who is just as excited to be there as you are makes them more memorable and enjoyable.
