The thread lift is having a major moment. Still relatively new to Canada – it was approved by Health Canada in early 2020 – the thread lift is the secret anti-aging weapon for a growing number of Toronto clients that come through the sleek doors at Yorkville’s D Luxe Lab, says owner Dema Najjar.

Thread Lift
A thread lift, or Silhouette InstaLift, is a procedure that can be performed under topical and local anesthetic only and is designed to lift and sculpt the face.
“The procedure is performed under aseptic techniques, meaning that the skin is first cleaned with an antiseptic solution. Then, threads are introduced using fine non-invasive needles,” explains D Luxe Lab’s Dr. Basil Hassouneh.
“The threads have small anchors that allow for the deep tissue to be pulled and provide the lifting in the exact vectors that are desired by the client and doctor. An added benefit to thread lift is that once the threads are in place and anchored, they create a collagen and elastin response in the body, which immediately makes the skin look younger.”
Is a Thread Lift Right For You?
The ideals candidate for a thread lift, says Hassouneh, are those who have signs of aging as a result of sagging skin, those who have experienced physical trauma on the face, those who have had a significant weight loss and have sagging skin, those who have over-exposed their faces to sun rays, and those who show signs of aging as a result of genetics.
“Since a thread lift provides instant lifting and contouring results, it is also perfect for someone who is not necessarily interested in undergoing a big surgery,” says Hassouneh. “Some clients opt to have thread lift for the purpose of stimulating collagen in the skin and in doing so, they will notice a gradual improvement in their skin’s tone and firmness.”
The Aftermath
While less invasive than other surgeries, there is typically some minimal downtime of approximately one week post-procedure. “Clients should expect some amount of bruising and swelling, similar to that of other filler or injectable procedures,” says Hassouneh. “Some people experience immediate or instant results, and as the swelling and bruising resolves, they will see further improvement.”
The good news is that clients’ temporary and minimal pain is for a greater long-lasting gain. Unlike treatments like Botox, which typically lasts three to four months, the results of a thread lift can last anywhere from eight to 12 months.
Naturally, it doesn’t come cheap. A thread lift will set you back between $3500 and $5500, depending on varying client needs. But – as we know – everyone spends their precious dollars differently. For some, it’s a small price to pay for the resulting confidence boost.
“It is worthwhile investing in thread lift as it helps the client examine the results of having a lift,” says Hassouneh. “Additionally, the combination of thread lifting with intradermal fillers and neuromodulators has an added benefit to the face in reversing the aging process and providing rejuvenation and contouring.”
Thread Lift vs Face Lift
But how does it compare to an actual face lift? According to Hassouneh, it’s tricky to compare the two, as both the candidates and their expectations in each case are different.
“The results from thread lifting are immediate and the procedure helps combat the aging process because of collagen stimulation within the skin. Surgical facelifts are necessary when skin aging and sagging are significant,” says Hassouneh. “The only real drawback to the thread lift is that the procedure needs to be repeated sooner than a surgical facelift does. A thread lift can create a beautiful result with less risk and downtime.”
D Luxe Lab
A thread lift is only one of the dozens of look-good/feel-good non-surgical services available at D Luxe Lab. In walking into its sleek and editorial-worthy waiting area, it’s quickly apparent why this med spa has become a quick go-to for Toronto’s movers and shakers and society page regulars.
Najjar says business is booming. Not only do many people have more disposable income after saving during lockdowns, Zoom meetings have caused a re-evaluation of the way we want to look.
“We bring our clients the most updated, approved technologies in the field and since we re-opened in June we’ve added even more services to treat the skin,” Najjar. “We also launched our ‘Bloom with DLL’ series that encourages our customers to come out of their ‘covid cocoon’ and bloom with us via a series of treatments currently under promotion.”
D Luxe Lab often features promotions. For example, clients had the option of a “TIFF Instant Glow” package for three weeks in September. For October, the med spa will offer promos on treatments designed to correct sun damage.
Naturally, pandemic-inspired safety measures are front and centre at D Luxe Lab.
“Since we have opened our doors post-lockdown we’ve welcomed our customers back with advanced safety measures to ensure they are at ease when in the clinic,” says Najjar.
