When it comes to New Year’s Eve, the key is to be as sparkly, shiny, and glittery as a New Orleans gay bar during Mardi Gras. To celebrate the arrival of 2015, you want your outfit to be the most memorable part of your evening – as in, if the flow of champagne means people only remember how well you were dressed and nothing else, that’s okay. As a great philosopher once said, “Shine bright like a diamond.”
This is not to say that you should be gaudy or tacky, though. Rather, look at New Year’s Eve 2015 as an opportunity to embrace that random sequined top that you’ve moved with you through three apartments but never actually worn. On-point this year are metallic fabrics, fringe, and all-white-everything. Or, if you’re more of a conservative dresser, get some killer statement accessories to add some personality to your little black dress.
For guys, this is also your time to shine – so to speak. While ties are SO 2000-and-never, we recommend accessorizing with punchy pieces like bowties, pocket squares, and pieces made from less common materials like velvet. A huge trend for fall/winter 2014 has also been to replace your blazer or tux jacket with a bomber instead. It’s chic, urban, and straight-off-the-fashion-blog current.
