New Concepts @ Nordstrom is embarking on its twelfth project aimed at creating new collections partnered with exciting brands from around the world. This platform demonstrates Nordstrom’s commitment to bringing upcoming designers to the spotlight by giving them pop-up shops and digital presence. Concept 012: Black_Space comes from Nordstrom SVP of Designer, Sam Lobban and his New Concepts team. This installation is dedicated to amplifying and celebrating Black representation in fashion.
says Marcus Paul, a stylist and one of the 5 creatives selected to curate the collection. Paul, along with designer Beth Birkett, creative director Harris Elliot, stylist Matthew Henson and fashion editor Azza Yousif have all carefully selected pieces from brands that spoke to their unique styles. These brands include a wide range of styles, tastes and prices while reflecting each Black curator’s creativity. 23 of the 24 brands included will be available for the first time at Nordstrom. Alongside the collection of ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, each creative has produced digital content, including videos personally made to shares their stories, vision, and perspectives as a Black creator today.
Sam Lobban explains “New Concepts @ Nordstrom has always been a platform to tell brand and product stories, with the goal to try and show the interconnectivity between fashion and culture. In line with that, we’ve always wanted to do something which would bring together a group of creatives with whom both the New Concepts team and I have built relationships with over our careers; people who we respect and appreciate for their unique and diverse perspective. Through this process we collaboratively built Concept 012: Black_Space, ultimately with the aim to celebrate Black fashion and creativity through the lens of some of the figures who are helping to shape it.”
While Concept 012: Black_Space is currently available at Nordstrom until early May, the in-store shop is exclusively at the Nordstrom Pacific Centre in Vancouver, but also available online at Nordstrom.ca.
