Ladies, let’s be real. Statement jewellery can make an outfit go from plain ol’ Jane to red carpet glam. Some of the coolest and most innovative jewellery pieces come from our neck of the woods, and these designer talents have been recognized all over the globe. From boho-chic to grunge-inspired accessories, there are many jewellers that tailor to different styles and trends. Here are some of our favourite, and most notable, Toronto jewellers that are making headways in the fashion accessories industry…
Jenny Bird
Born into a family of farmers and seamstresses, Bird self-taught her way into the accessories design industry allowing her to start up a luxury handbag collection. The successful collection quickly expanded into a fantastic boho-luxe jewellery business that’s been featured in Flare, Glow, and W Magazine among many more notable publications. The stylist and designer has cultivated a unique bohemian jewellery market from Toronto to New York. This woman is always creating and has even ventured into styling a music video for Canadian musician Lou Canon, which featured jewels from her SS14 collection.
Mejuri
Restoring her family’s passion for jewellery, Noura, Mejuri’s co-founder, started a unique jewellery business that creates one-of-a-kind pieces by giving global designers a chance to showcase their designs and creativity. Customers are included in the selection process, allowing them to choose their favourite designs featured, tailoring to their needs and giving them an opportunity to connect with the global designers.
I Heart Blackbird
Blackbird designers Vanessa Marino and Regan Hayes are committed to creating flawless jewellery that’s uniquely handcrafted using mixed metals, stones, silk rope, and chains. Their exclusive armour collection uses bold and beautiful statement pieces that showcase historical inspiration while mixing in modern day style.
Dean Davidson
Rising star Dean Davidson has proved to be a Canadian jeweller to brag about after being covered in numerous fashion and style magazines including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and InStyle. His luxurious jewellery is made using sterling silver, 18kt gold, and semi-precious gemstones, exuding the perfect touch of femininity and everyday beauty. Oh, and his jewellery is loved by the likes of Emma Watson, Jessica Alba and many more A-Listers.
Michelle Ross
Michelle Ross is a Toronto-born designer that studied textiles at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. Her unusual designs and innate eye for detail brings jewellery to a whole new level. Using semi-precious stones and metals juxtaposed with glass, ceramics and vintage findings are how this Canadian jeweller has unleashed a creative market for jewellery lovers. Ross moved to London to launch her womenswear collection, and has returned to Toronto to continue her passion for handcrafting jewellery.
