As View the Vibe’s in-house fashion and beauty addict with a Y chromosome, it only made sense that Philip start his own column devoted exclusively to grooming products for gents. Philip’s Pick features all the best items for men who believe putting in the effort to look and feel great (both inside and out) is not just for the ladies. Our boy also tests all the products himself, which is probably why he looks so great all the time… right?
Having spent the last 4 months in Nunavut 2.0 (i.e. Polar Vortex Toronto), my hair has consistently been on lockdown underneath one toque or another. While an effective way to retain heat and saving me tons of time in the morning, I had to come to terms with the fact that sooner or later my locks would have to see light.
Given that spring is upon us, and with World MasterCard Fashion Week, I thought this would be the perfect time to get a fancy new ‘do. Being the creative and original individual that I am, I decided to get a cut that was buzzed nearly to the skin on the sides and long on top. I needed a product that would allow me to slick back the length without getting too sticky.
Enter Lush’s Dirty Hair Cream. Coming in a smooth, putty consistency, this versatile product is exactly what I needed. It has just enough hold to keep everything in place without making things too 90s boy-band spiky (read: not necessarily a bad thing) if I don’t want it to be. The “Dirty” in the name also lends itself to the fact that it gives my hair that unwashed, I-woke-up-like-this, #Flawless look which is oh-so trendy and masculine. All you need for styling is to take a small dab, spread it on your hands, and run your fingers through your hair until you get it the way you like. If you want that *NSync spiked look, just use the cream in higher quantities. I recommend drying your hair first for best results, otherwise things just don’t seem to stick as well as I’d like. The hold lasts for the entire day, though a little touch-up between work and evening events never hurts.
Added benefits? The smell is incredibly manly and is meant to complement Lush’s other “Dirty” products. Also, there’s tons of moisturizing cocoa butter to keep your strands soft while rosemary helps chill out your scalp. FYI, I’ve gotten mountains of compliments on how well my hairstyle stays in place at Toronto Fashion Week and I bring my little tub of Lush’s Dirty Hair Cream (or ‘Dirty Hairy’, as I call it) everywhere with me now.
You can grab your own Dirty Hair Cream at Lush in-stores and online for $15,95
