Today, the world watched as a NASA spacecraft called New Horizons hurtled past the dwarf planet Pluto at a mind-boggling speed of 45,000 miles an hour. It’s mission: to snap the first up-close photos of its landscape.
The space craft launched nine years ago and has travelled 3 billion miles, making this mission “the frontier of space exploration,” a project scientist from NASA explains in an article for The Guardian. “It’s the first time we’ve explored an entirely new zone of the solar system.”
Scientists are drooling over the up close and personal images of the smallest planet in our solar system, but with its adorable heart-shaped markings, they aren’t the only ones. Pluto is basically breaking the Internet.
