Our View the Vibe #YVR team was recently invited to check out the new Canadiana comfort food offerings at Preston’s at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel as part of their “Taste of Canada” menu launch. Loaded with tasty comfort food offerings strategically paired with Canadian craft beer, guests were given a tasting passport and left to explore the inventive cuisine of our country from coast to coast (thanks to the restaurant’s new Chef, Bruce Nollert).
Though we were kindly greeted by a lovely host holding a tray of tasty looking Canadian Caesars, we opted to swing by to check out the sips afforded by none other than The Great One’s vineyard: Wayne Gretzky.
We found ourselves on the East Coast savouring miniature stuffed lobster sandwiches alongside New England style seafood chowder and traditional Nova Scotian dessert before heading to the Prairies. What spells out classic prairie cuisine more than a plate full of perogies? We found more than our fill of these delightful bites – served alongside a Rickard’s Dark Ale and bison carpaccio that was melt-in-your-mouth good.
Before long, we landed at La Belle Province for a few bites of poutine and a quintessential serving of Montreal smoked meat (served on what else but Montreal bagels, natch). This was polished off with a sweet butter tart and tasty Brown Ale by Newcastle.
Finally, it was time to head back to the best coast – yup, there you have it… we’re biased. West Coast cuisine shone with a healthy serving of fresh-shucked oysters served alongside house-cured blueberry salmon on herbed bannock bread for an interesting twist. We sipped our Granville Island Maple Cream Ale before settling in for dessert: a nanaimo bar.
Preston’s is located at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in Vancouver, 1180 W.Hastings Street.
