Pros & Cons of Online and Land-Based Casinos in Canada

  • Joel Levy
  • February 7, 2022
  • 6 minute read

You might not be able to play casino games in the same way you did ten years ago. The advent of new technologies such as downloadable mobile apps and HTML5-based websites has changed how we play casino games forever. One of the most frequent questions players have asked is whether they should be playing at land-based casinos or online casinos. The debate between land-based casinos and online casinos is as heated as the debate between cats and dogs. Both sides have their pros and cons to argue, but in the end, it’s up to you to decide which is better.

Online Casinos

Online casinos were designed to let players enjoy their favorite games via any internet-connected device – from your smartphone to a desktop computer. Forget about traveling to a brick-and-mortar casino, take your favorites with you, and play from the comfort of your home or office. No matter where you’re located, you can enjoy a real gaming experience thanks to online casinos’ many features and options. Featuring numerous game options, a wide range of games, and exciting offers and bonuses, an online casino can give any player an unforgettable experience.

Gaming enthusiasts now have a myriad of online casinos to choose from, but many are turning to these online gaming options for their sheer convenience and flexibility. Many online casinos offer the same games as their land-based counterparts, along with appealing bonuses and great promotions that add to the enjoyment of each game.

Pros

  • Easy Access: Players who live outside of Metro areas may have to drive long distances, and they may also contend with traffic and parking issues. Additionally, there are possible side effects such as reduced concentration and motivation for players who must travel for hours to get to a land-based casino. The mental stress of the trip may negatively affect a casino player’s prowess. However, you do not have to go through the hassle because technology allows you to play your all-time casino games on your home computer or smartphone device. Casino games are trending among Canadian players because of the convenience of playing at any time. Players in Canada can choose from a huge list of online games offering gorgeous graphics, fun soundtracks, and simple yet fun gameplay. New online experiences are always evolving. Even online casinos are being updated to include more immersive elements that can make the experience of playing even more exciting. Soon, developers will be able to incorporate virtual reality and artificial intelligence into their games, making the experience feel like players are sitting at a table instead of in front of a screen.
  • More Game Choices: You’re stuck with whatever games are available to you at your preferred land-based casino location. If you have a favorite game that’s only located on the other side of town, there’s no way for you to enjoy it without visiting an entirely different casino. If you live in Canada, you may have noticed that betting is not nearly as accessible as it is for those who are lucky enough to live in more developed regions. Of course, you can’t do much about it. When you choose online casino games, you’ll find that there are a ton of options. Some websites offer much better odds than others, and some games might be way more fun than others. Don’t waste your time, head over to a casino that will give you the exact experience you want. You can escape the brick-and-mortar casino limitations by selecting the best Ontario online casinos site from top platforms operating in the province.
  • Mobility = More Winning Opportunities: One of the main differences between a desktop computer and a smartphone is mobility. While phones are always with you and thus provide easy access to casino games, often on desktop computers, you have to be at home or in your office, leaving gaming as a treat for specific times. Your phone gives you online casino access whenever you need it — and that’s wherever you need it. Competitions and tournaments require participants to stay up for long periods and sometimes even into the early morning, but that is what separates the victors from the rest of the pack — those who can stay up long enough to get through to the next round.

Cons

  • Internet Connection Issues: If you’re playing online, you’ll have to make sure that you have internet access. If you’re traveling in your car, bus, or train and there’s no Wi-Fi nearby, then you won’t be able to play. If you’re taking a plane ride to a new city, you’ll use your mobile data when there’s no Wi-Fi. However, the disconnection of the internet could be enough to ruin your day. Imagine you’re in the middle of a game, and suddenly the connection fails. Instead of concentrating on your bets, you wonder if your internet will come back up again.
  • Potential Fraud and Culpability: Scammers have found a new way to cheat players out of their money with apps designed to look like casino games, but they’re meant to trick people into giving up personal information. You can find these “casino” apps hiding on your device’s app store or in spam emails. They can cause irreversible damage if you give them the opportunity. We’ve all heard the stories of online gamers being scammed out of their money. These stories are distressingly common, but they don’t have to be. As long as there are online games, there will always be a risk of fraud. But there’s more we can do to mitigate this risk. Security is your number one concern when playing a casino game. No matter which app you choose, the first thing you should do is research the company and read through its reviews to find out how it handles security, and whether or not it safeguards your private information. You should also check if it has a secure registration process, especially if you’re giving your banking details.

Land Casino

There’s nothing like the sheer excitement of playing casino games at land-based venues. From the VIP treatment staff gives you to the atmosphere of being at the newest and liveliest casinos, you get to create memories you’ll never forget. As for the games, there are many variations that you can play with your friends – live roulette tables, crowded blackjack spaces, and even slot machines lined up closely on giant rows.

Pros

  • Thrilling In-Person Experience: The perfect gaming experience comes from blending the thrill of the game with the fun environment of a land-based casino. Visitors enjoy traditional table games, such as blackjack and poker, and more modern slots and machines. It’s a completely immersive experience that you can’t get any other way.
  • Social Interaction: Casino-goers expect to have a fun time. Fun is subjective, of course, but some indisputable traits define an entertaining experience at the casino – regardless of the type. One key element is social interaction. The ability to mingle and interact with other guests is one of the most enjoyable aspects of casino life.

Cons

  • Limited to a Few Games: Due to physical constraints, land-based casinos have traditionally had a lesser game selection than online casinos. As a result, recreational players frequently have a less profitable experience than their digital counterparts, who have access to a greater selection of games.
  • Easier to Get Carried Away: There’s no hiding in a land-based casino when you’re on a losing streak, making it easier to get carried away. It can be embarrassing to play with people who can see your anxiety or lose a couple of hands in a row and watch others rake in the chips.
  • Limited Accessibility – Strict Working Hours: Gambling is a huge market, and the industry keeps growing. Some people prefer to hit land-based casinos while dressed up in suits and high heels. Other more modern players are happy playing online casino games while still wearing pajamas in their living rooms. The difference is that the second ones do not have to worry about working hours and can play whenever they please.

Verdict

Online casinos are, without a doubt, a better deal than their land-based counterparts. First of all, you don’t need to pay for transportation. Second, there are wide variety of casino games available. Third, you can play these games from anywhere in the world. While the debate remains, the best option comes down to personal preference.
