Pittsburgh became home to hundreds of Germans during the late-19th century. One of which was the businessman Henry J. Heinz, who founded Heinz Company.
But, German culture still lives and breaths in the city. The greatest example of this is the Hofbrau Haus. While it may not be exactly like the Fatherland, it’s certainly a Wunderbar to get a drink or two.
You can sample the traditional German wheat beer, experience the lederhosen of the servers and enjoy music and entertainment like nowhere else.
3. A Tour of the Home of American Whiskey
Did you know that Pittsburgh is also the home of American Whiskey?
The city played an important role in the Whiskey Rebellion as well. You can learn all about the history of whiskey in the US here.
Without a doubt, you’ll also get the chance to sample the whiskey yourself. If whiskey isn’t to your taste, then you can also enjoy a number of other liquours. The gin in these parts is also outstanding.
4. Take a Ride on the Inclines
For many people, no visit is complete without discovering the finest view of the city. You’ll notice that this former industrial town is blessed with a beautiful hilly landscape.
This made it a nightmare to get around for workers arriving in the city’s factories each morning. The funicular incline railways were constructed to make it easier to get up and down the steep hills which surround Pittsburgh.
You can still enjoy a ride on the Duquesne Incline today for just a few dollars. This is where you’ll see the best views of the city.
