Flare to close print operations
Juice factor: 10/10
Is this a sign of things to come? As much as we wanted to believe it was an April Fool’s prank come early in the form of a “trick or treat,” it was no joking matter this past weekend when Toronto-based fashion magazine, Flare, announced it will be going mostly digital as of early 2016. Flare will no longer be found on newsstands and made only available to its subscribers. For those non-subscribers, digital will be the only way to check in on our fan-fave fashion media. Given its proud placement under the Rogers umbrella, it’s hard to imagine the business decision isn’t an omen of things to come for Canadian print publications….
Kylie Jenner + ELLE Canada = staying power?
Juice factor: 9/10
She’s the hot Kardashian du jour — no doubt thanks to Momager Kris Jenner — despite not officially sharing the famed “K” last name. That must at least mean she’s newsstand gold. That’s likely why she’s gracin ELLE Canada’s December cover, shot by one of the magazine’s preferred photographers, Max Abadian. Inside, she opens up about her not so secretive lip injections. “I wanted to come out and say that this is crazy and I only got my lips done,” the now 18-year-old celebutante divulges. “I don’t think people realize that I just turned 18. There’s no way my mom or any doctor would let me go under the knife like that—that’s just so crazy!” But is it, Kylie, is it?
Blind Item: How to be a fashion icon in Canada
Juice factor: 10/10
We know the feeling — peruse another best-dressed list in Canada, and it’s a whole new slew of names you’ve never heard of. Are you out of touch with pop culture since last time you pressed refresh on TMZ.com? Oh, how we WISH that was the case. You can usually safely bet a newcomer entry on any given list has more to do with a moneyed “entrepreneur” hiring herself a PR firm with a lil’ fashion scene muscle — as is the case with this blind item. Truth be told, it’s not exactly her PR firm — just one she adopted since cozying up to a more high-profile gent and getting him to put a ring on it. And rings make lists too, you know….
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton dating?
Juice factor: 7/10
Speaking of married folk, freshly separated Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, both of whom have filed for divorce from their significant others and both of whom star on the current season of The Voice, are rumoured to be getting up close and personal with one another off camera. A photo taken by costar Adam Levine’s wife at a party this Halloween of the two getting cozy in costume speaks to that. As we patiently await the truth to unfold, we’ll just assume that two newly single beautiful people spending time in close corridors only do what’s right…
Blind Item: The not-so popular TV personality
Juice factor: 9/10
If you’ve watched this guy in action, you’d think he must be constantly cooling his rosy cheeks with a fan made from gushing letters from his many dedicated admirers. Not the case — in fact, many of the so-called “fans” reaching out to him are actually people from his camp posing as adoring members of general public. It’s the new buying followers.
Jon Stewart returns… to HBO?
Juice factor: 8/10
It seems like only a matter of weeks since we last saw Stewart occupying his post on The Daily Show. We guess that’s a century in the ADHD era, which means time to announce his next venture before his star power becomes obsolete. “I’m so excited to be working with Richard [Plepler], Michael and the entire HBO family,” said Stewart in a press release this week about his new top-secret HBO project, which promises to revolutionize media. “Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.”
Blind Item: Fashion your seat belts for the backlash…
Juice factor: 9/10
This already soft-launched, soon to be mega-launched new fashion label will be the talk of the town, if only because of the financial backing behind it and the so-called “star power” fan it has already won over. That being said, one of the fashion industry powerhouses brought in to help sew unsightly seams in the PR push before the big debut has already been talking trash about the experience, calling the line “granny chic, and not in a good way.” Eeek.
