Sex & The 6ix is our new weekly Sunday dating column in collaboration with a dating expert and matchmaker. Every week, watch two people get to know each other and predict if the relationship will bloom or if it looks like an epic fail. We send two people out to a hot spot to enjoy dinner on us and see if we can make a love connection!
Meet our matchmaker:
Shannon Tebb, entrepreneur and creator of Shanny in the City, has worked as a Matchmaker and Dating Consultant since 2010. She has been featured on various radio shows, and offered her expert opinion for articles in the Huffington Post, The Star, Metro, Eligible TV, Oh So Cosmo, KISS 92.5, CBC Radio, and was the spokesperson for Zoosk.com.
Interested in being one of our daters? Shanny is looking for genuine candidates that are interested in finding love in this oh so busy city!
Fill out the form that applies to you and we will set you up with a potential perfect match! With Shanny’s expertise, we hope we can help you find love in the 6ix – or at least enjoy a nice meal on us. After the date we ask for a quick feedback session to gain insight as to how the date went and encourage you to keep putting yourself out there!
Now on to this week’s date…. Meet Shanny’s match:
This week’s Sex and the 6ix date was in no way “blind” at all. These two daters had the pleasure of meeting the weekend before at The Gentlemen’s Expo while on stage as participants for View the Vibe’s main stage presentation of The Dating Game.
Ben, who is a writer and bar owner, was our featured bachelor. We brought Denise back, who was a former Sex & the 6ix blind dater as one of our feature bachelorettes. She was up for another shot at love and her positive radiant energy definitely shone through on the Dating Game stage. Ben had no idea what the bachelorettes looked like and had to choose one lucky lady based on her answers to his (sexy and fun) questions.
As the matchmaker host of The Dating Game at The Gentlemen’s Expo (alongside the lovely Halla Rafati who was the MC of the game), my job was done after recruiting three intelligent, beautiful, successful bachelorettes for our bachelor Ben. It was now up to Ben to determine which girl would be the right match for him. Between Evelina, a sexy blond pharmaceutical sales girl, Lisa, a health and fitness guru and Denise, an Associate Director that manages a team of fundraisers for one of Canada’s largest well-known charities, it was Denise who stood out with her honest answers, cute giggle and confident spirit. Her sweet character and giving nature was apparent when she mentioned how she arranged an “Around the World” excursion in Toronto for an ex-boyfriend who didn’t get to travel much. Ben is also a huge traveller, so this answer stuck with him.
Another YES moment was when Denise was asked “What one word would your friends use to describe you”? She responded that she is “a little bit of everything” meaning “balanced.” This resonated with Ben and was the determining factor when he had to make the call and pick his bachelorette. Ben said goodbye to the two remaining bachelorettes and was excited to see Denise for the first time. She was handed a lovely red rose from Ben to seal the date and we took care of the rest.
Our bachelor Ben and bachelorette Denise then enjoyed a fabulous dinner on View the Vibe at the new Café Boulud in the Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville. Let’s see if sparks flew when they were face to face in this romantic French restaurant.
After interviewing both Denise and Ben, Shannon’s expert opinion is…
Our bachelor and bachelorette are both the same age, and had almost identical date feedback to share. Both felt that they connected on an intellectual level but lacked a romantic connection. Having met ahead of time, both were very comfortable on the date. However, the date felt like a dinner between friends rather than two singles. It’s too bad that the romantic sparks weren’t flying since they shared several key perspectives on life and would also make great travel buddies.
That being said, I’m sure Ben will stay in touch with Denise and pick her brain on his next travel destination, given that she’s been to 36 different countries. We are so thankful to have had Denise and Ben participate in Sex and the 6ix’s The Dating Game at The Gentlemen’s Expo, as well as the dinner date. We wish them lots of love in the future and know they will continue to be successful daters and find that special partner down the road.
