This past Friday evening, Shop Socials (launched in 2010 by Tamika Auwai as a means of shining a spotlight on local designers and independent boutiques) put on an exclusive, one-night-only spring fashion, beauty and luxe lifestyle pop-up market. Touting over 20 local style brands for men, women and children (including Stella & Dot, Shop for Jayu, SERU, devlish Angelz, Ohhh Canada, and more) it was a great excuse to gather the girls for a fun night out to shop and socialize with the brains behind Toronto’s best and brightest designers and brands.
Donning killer heels and funky iPhone cases, expertly primped from head to toe, the crowd consisted of the type of urban professionals who you can’t help but be drawn to. Nibbling on appetizers with wine glasses in hand, ladies (and a handful of cool gents) worked the room, socializing and perusing the booths.
The venue – the new second floor of King West’s stylishly cool yet comfortable Spoke Club (a locale typically reserved for private members only) – was just right for the occasion. Lounge areas consisting of modern sofas atop Persian rugs scattered throughout added warmth and functionality. Flanked by exposed brick and steel beams, the room itself gave off an “industrial cool” aesthetic that brought the whole thing to life.
Having snagged some stylish bling, a purse-full of business cards and pamphlets on Trend Trunk, Tru Vitality Clinic, and Brass Vixens, my girlfriend and I left with smiles on our faces and newfound knowledge on some awesome products and services we’re eager to take advantage of.
Thankfully we won’t have to wait long until the next Shop Socials event, which will be taking place sometime within the next few months. Let the countdown begin…
