Summer in Toronto is probably one of my favorite times to be a city dweller. Not just for the warm weather and longer days but because there is always so much happening in the city! One of the greatest on-going summer events in Toronto, in my humble opinion, is Summerlicious, which is sponsored by American Express and runs from July 6th to July 22nd. A variety of the top restaurants take part in creating a three course prix-fixe menu to showcase their restaurant to guests who are on the hunt for something new. It’s the perfect excuse to eat out at that little place ’round the corner you’ve been dying to try!
In my case it was Mildred’s Temple Kitchen! Adam and Nicki have already have been to Mildred’s before and have only said wonderful things about it – which coming from two foodies only made me more excited to finally get the chance to go. The service, the atmosphere, and the food were spectacular! The menu wasn’t your typical boring prix-fixe – it was clear that a lot of thought went into creating an experience for the ‘licious diner. I mean any menu that’s got Pulled Pork Ancho Chili Tostadas has already won my heart – can you guess what I had? The Eats, Shoots, Leaves Salad was fresh and full of color, the perfect lunch on a hot summer’s day. Even the desserts won our hearts, including Nicki (not a sweets lady) who couldn’t get enough of the Sister Leche – a vanilla cake soaked in three kinds of milk, who could resist?!
Needless to say Mildred’s Temple Kitchen was worth the wait. Now, correct me if I’m wrong but one of the ideas to Summerlicious is to encourage guests to keep coming back. I personally think Mildred’s Temple went above and beyond expectations to encourage people to keep coming back for more. They won me over and I’m already looking for another excuse to visit.
