Inside an intimate party at Mademoiselle, Toronto Fashion Incubator Executive Director Susan Langdon, C.M. announced the launch of Fashion Shares, an initiative to support survivors of domestic abuse. The charitable effort rallies industry professionals to support women who are survivors of domestic abuse and are taking the steps to reenter the workforce. Fashion Shares asks companies to donate their surplus stock and gently returned merchandise to be recycled and repurposed for a good cause.
“‘Intimate Partner Violence,’ or domestic abuse, is a public health concern that affects women across Canada. This is why I wanted to launch Fashion Shares, to help those who need tremendous support during an extremely difficult time in their lives,” says Langdon. “We are proud to launch Fashion Shares and support survivors of domestic abuse, an initiative that will have a lasting positive impact on the community.” So, her new initiative aims to inspire professional women to give back and to increase access to opportunities for survivors, who may not have had access to certain resources on their own.
Langdon launched the initiative in collaboration with Dr. Roz’s Healing Place, a center that works to offer services for those who suffer from violence in a relationship, and Ana-Maria Butcara, the Senior Managing Partner at Mademoiselle & MARBL. “Domestic abuse is a serious issue, and many survivors escape with nothing but the clothes on their backs. It’s important that we have initiatives like Fashion Shares and use our position to help these women rebuild their lives, ease any anxiety related to business attire and resources, and empower them to succeed,” Butcara says.

Another event to officially celebrate the initiative will come later this year, as well as recognize the supporters it has already garnered. More information will follow as the event–slated to occur in Winter 2023–gets closer.
