Let’s take a trip the tranquil west coast island of Victoria, BC to talk with the wonderful and multi-talented beauty blogger Alana Parsons, shall we?
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
My name is Alana and I’m a graphic designer/photographer/blogger from Victoria, BC. My blog, Dream, Create, is my happy place, where I share my photography, style, art, and DIYs. I work 15+ hour days, but I’m living my dream!
How did you get interested in the world of beauty?
It really began by accident. I started Dream, Create as an exercise to maintain and improve my graphic art skills, then beauty and style kind of took over and more people began to take notice. Now as I’m doing more photography, beauty/style is such a contributing factor, they truly elevate each other and I’m having so much fun with it. Also, the Indian side of my family thinks more makeup is better so I’ve embraced it!
What’s your beauty must-have?
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, Shu Uemura lash curler, Covergirl Lash Blast mascara (the orange tube), and my straightening iron which I use to curl my hair and it lasts for days.
What beauty/style trends are you excited for this year?
For beauty I’m all about great skin highlighted by defined brows and tons of lashes – it transforms your face. For style I’m excited for a mix of retro and classic, a Jackie O/Katharine Hepburn/Brigitte Bardot sort of hybrid!
What’s your favourite spa or service?
What’s the one – yes, just one – product you can’t live without?
Definitely mascara. When I don’t wear it (rarely) people think I’m upset or dying.
If you were a nail polish, your colour name would be…
Monkey’s Big Adventure!
Favourite beauty/style ad campaign of the past decade?
Every campaign by Tim Walker. I fell in love with the Mulberry “Where the Wild Things Are” campaign, but anything Tim does is pure magic. He’s my career hero.
