Entertainment and lifestyle publicist Amira de Vera might just be one of our favourite things to happen to Toronto. The PR maven is insanely busy repping everything from high profile red carpet premieres to up-and-coming bands, but she does it all with a big smile on her face and an infectious energy that lights up a room. We couldn’t think of a better way to kick off TIFF than with a profile on one of our favourite ladies who helps make all the magic happen…
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
I’m an entertainment and lifestyle publicist in the beautiful city of Toronto. I’m also an animal lover supporting incredible organizations like the Ontario SPCA, WWF and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and I’m a huge sports fan… Go Leafs Go!
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…there is always something to do and new things to explore. I also love how diverse each neighbourhood is. You can be in Italy one minute and China the next. Toronto really is the best multicultural place in the world.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
My iPhone. Seriously. My phone is always attached to my hand. It’s actually been called my umbilical cord before. The two other things I can’t live without… do Twitter and Facebook count? I’m a social media addict.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
This is a hard question because there are about a hundred restaurants I am in love with. An ultimate favourite that I do always recommend to people is Gusto 101 on Portland. The food is fantastic, the service is impeccable and the vibe is great. The retractable roof is also a super cool feature.
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
I am a huge fan of sangria and O&B Canteen makes a fabulous one. For non-alcoholic, Sassafraz in Yorkville has an amazing drink called the Cucumberland Detox and it is heavenly. Trust me. It’s a must try!
Who’s your favourite designer/brand and why do you sport their fashions?
I’m a Ferragamo and Chanel gal because they’re classic and never go out of style. I also love supporting local fashion designers, especially if they’re friends of mine. Everyone needs to check out my friend Suji Im’s line NUNC. She makes fabulous jewellery and she’s super talented!
