Though some people may think it’s best to keep business and family separate, the three siblings behind Triarchy Denim are proof that it can work — and be successful. Ania Taubenfligel is one of the three founders of the Vancouver-based denim company. A former fashion model, Taubenfligel is not only a fashion maven, but also a self-professed “adventure junkie.” We caught up with Taubenfligel to learn more about her city-trotting lifestyle.
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
My name is Ania and I along with my two brothers founded and run Triarchy Denim. It started in Vancouver and is manufactured in Los Angeles, so I spend my time between both cities and travel a lot to other locations as well. I love nature and the outdoors. I’m an adventure junkie; in the summer you’ll find me horseback riding and in the winter I’ll be glued to my snowboard. In between I’m working on our brand and travelling for both work and pleasure. For those who know me they know I am a huge animal lover and it’s a very large part of who I am.
Finish this sentence: I love Vancouver because…
No matter what day of the year it is there is so much to do and nature is around every corner. Nature is what makes our city so incredibly beautiful and what I value most.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
My friends and family who are all over the world, animals and nature.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Il Giardino was my all0time favourite restaurant. From the food to the ambiance it was flawless so you can imagine my heartache when they closed. Second to that involves a bit of a drive to Whistler, has to be both Il Caminetto and Trattoria (both of which are owned by the one and only wonderful Umberto Menghi). I highly recommend both of his establishments! My parents have been dining there since before I was born, so I guess you could say my love of his quality Italian cooking must be in my DNA!
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
I’m quite lucky as my favourite drink is served just about everywhere, champagne.
Your choice karaoke song is…
“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with all your city-trotting?
My city-trotting is very under the radar. For those who know me they know my appearances are usually spontaneous and I pop up here and there. I don’t go to the same spot all the time as I enjoy to mix it up and it depends on the weather and what mood I’m in. Vancouver offers a variety of establishments that cater accordingly to the weather, whether its sunny, raining or snowing you can find exactly what you need.
