Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
Hello! I am Anjali and I write a beauty and lifestyle blog called Rock That Look, where I post beauty reviews, outfits of the day, event recaps and other random life-related posts. I am also the Editor in Chief of EDMTOR.com, a media website dedicated to the dance music scene in Toronto. Any boy will win my heart with a solid trance, house or techno mix. What else? I have a corporate 9-5 job that keeps me busy during the weekdays and lastly, I am always on Twitter.
How did you get interested in the world of beauty?
I worked at a beauty counter in my high school and university days and absolutely adored playing with the colours and textures of makeup. I learned how to apply makeup on the job and after graduating university, decided to make it a side business while I worked on my corporate career. At the time, I didn’t have a portfolio, so instead of creating a website I decided to start a blog as a means of showcasing my work and building a personal brand. Little did I know that I would fall in love with writing and shift from being a makeup artist to a beauty blogger! I still do an occasional makeup gig here and there, but now it’s more about writing and educating people about beauty through my writing.
What’s your beauty must-have?
Proper skincare. The foundation of any great look is beautiful, nurtured and nourished skin. No amount of makeup will give you the long-term benefits of a healthy skincare routine.
What beauty/style trends are you excited for this year?
I’m really excited for spring colours. This year we’re seeing tons of tropical shades like emerald, corals and reds. I’m excited to incorporate splashes of colours on the eyes and to rock bright lips throughout the spring and summer!
What’s your favourite spa or service?
I can’t say I have a favourite spa in Toronto because, to be honest, I haven’t been to many in the city! I do, however, love a good pedicure. I don’t spend enough time pampering my feet so it’s always nice and refreshing to have someone else do it.
What’s the one – yes, just one – product you can’t live without?
Eyeliner. There are very few days since the first time I put on makeup to today where I haven’t worn eyeliner. My current favourite is the AMC Eye Pencil from Inglot. It’s a jumbo pencil with intense, long-lasting colour that doesn’t fade or smudge.
If you were a nail polish, your colour name would be _________.
You Better Believe It.
Favourite beauty/style ad campaign of the past decade.
Wow, that’s a great question. It might be cliché, but I really loved Dove’s Real Beauty campaign. In a 60-second video, they showed the process of an average-looking woman being made into a billboard model. I think a look behind-the-scenes was eye-opening to the masses and opened the door for “real” women to be showcased and celebrated in mainstream media and advertising.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date of your primping and pampering?
You can always check out one or all of the following to see what I’m up to:
