Jessica Jean Myers is a Toronto beauty who helps others achieve their own thanks to her skilled makeup and hair artistry. Let’s find out a li’l more about this bodacious brunette…
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
I’m a Toronto-based freelance makeup and hair artist. I’ve been working in the industry for about six years now with a focus in fashion, commercial/advertising, film/TV and weddings. I have a passion for anything related to beauty, fashion and travel, and have even worked abroad in Shanghai and China for eight months in the beginning of my career.
How did you get interested in the world of beauty?
I’ve always been interested in the world of beauty and was always experimenting with makeup and trends, even as a young girl. Before I got into makeup I actually studied acting and theatre in university. After my degree, acting just didn’t feel quite like the right fit and I knew I had to follow my dream and become a makeup artist. Things quickly fell into place with makeup and I knew I had made the right choice!
What are your beauty must-haves?
My beauty must-haves… Well, depends if we’re talking in my makeup kit or for myself. If we’re talking for myself, then red lipstick (MAC Party Line), a good foundation (I use Cover FX as I like something with fuller coverage), L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara, and a good eyelash curler!
What beauty/style trends are you excited for this year?
Beauty trends I’m excited for… Matte lips. I love lipstick, so I’m just happy that trend is sticking around and growing in popularity! For hair, bangs are really big right now and I love that because I just re-cut mine.
What’s your favourite spa or service?
Favourite spa service is probably a facial because I have problem skin, so anything that can help with that makes me happy!
The one – yes, just one – product you can’t live without is ______________
I can’t live without red lipstick! It can make you look glam, polished and done in under 30 seconds. It brightens the face and brings attention to my smile!
If you were a nail polish, your colour name would be _________
(I’m stealing my inspiration from OPI here.) Too Hot Pink To Handle.
Favourite beauty/style ad campaign of the past decade?
That’s a hard one! But you know what, the original Dove “Real Beauty” campaigns were really inspiring for me as a woman and they were just so different. I think they were amazing at really breaking down some walls and preconceived notions about beauty and how women are “supposed to look.” I especially loved that one commercial that showed the girl sitting in the makeup chair going from no makeup to full beauty campaign look in 60 seconds flat. It showed all the behind-the-scenes stuff that actually happens – makeup, hair, lighting, photographer, Photoshop, etc.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date of your primping and pampering?
I have several websites and social media outlets where people can stay up-to-date on my work and interests as a makeup and hair artist… Blog. Twitter. Pinterest. Professional Website. Wedding Hair and Makeup Website.
