PR maven Karen Petcoff has had a fascinating career in public relations, having worked alongside some of the biggest celebs and sports stars in the world. Now working as an independent PR pro in Toronto, as well as being an Associate Partner at Peoples & Company, she’s also working on her first novel on the side, based on her life as a mother of two who once again shares the same roof with her father. Comedy will inevitably ensue in the book, given that Petcoff’s quick wit and penchant for dry humour are two of the things that make her such a rock star in her life and career…
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
I’m an independent public relations professional based in Toronto. I’m also working on my first novel, which is a humorous take on the love story between a father and daughter. It’s based on my own life with my dad, a fiery Scot, who at 75 split with his girlfriend and came to live with my daughters and me.

What’s your favourite piece of advice and who gave it to you?
My mother always told me to never bite off less than I could chew. To me it meant never playing it small, so I’ve always tried to stretch myself professionally and personally.
What are three things you can’t live without?
My daughters, Veronica and Gillian (they aren’t really things but I couldn’t live without them!), my cell phone, and my sense of humour.
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…I grew up here and have seen Toronto emerge as the culturally diverse world-class city it is today. The city finds every excuse to celebrate, which is why it’s home to major events such as Pride, TIFF, Luminato, and the many ridiculously delicious food festivals.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
I am a member of the Vintage Conservatory, which not only lets me store my bottles of wine in a private locker, Andrew Smith is a fabulous chef and offers the most inspired menus for social gatherings or my own events. It’s a chill place, and there’s always someone interesting there to share a glass of fine wine and great conversation.

What products are always in your beauty bag?
