If you think you’re too busy to workout or that your lifestyle’s too hectic to garner any sense of zen in your life, take a look at the fabulous Lexi Pathak. She spends her days working as the Senior PR Manager at Faulhaber Communications and, by night, she teaches yoga at a downtown Toronto studio called IAM YOGA. We caught up with the busy lady to find how she manages to stay so centered and what she’s currently obsessed with.
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
I’m Lexi. I am the Senior PR Manager at Faulhaber Communications, an amazing lifestyle PR agency in Toronto with killer clients and a great team! A true Scorpio, I am a bit of a dichotomy. Extrovert/Introvert. Hard news junkie/fashion magazine lover. Give me a Vogue or the New York Times any day and I am a happy girl. The things that make me tick? Friends. Family. The Ocean. Design. My little peanut of a dog Napoleon… and work. I stay grounded through a dedicated yoga practice that truly balances me out, and one of these days I will finally find the time to write my children’s picture book series.
How did you get interested in the world of yoga?
My grandfather is Indian so I have always been interested in all things India. I’ve dabbled in yoga for a long time, but truly embraced it while earning my graduate studies diploma in Journalism at Concordia University in 2005. A very competitive and demanding program, I joined Moksha Montreal to help keep active and reduce stress. I did my teacher’s training right after graduating and have taught ever since. In Toronto I teach at an amazing studio downtown called IAM YOGA, and practice personally at Downward Dog on Queen Street West. I love being able to share my passion for the practice with others. Yoga to me is the perfect chance to reconnect with myself and also the community. There is nothing more powerful and healing than sitting with your breath.
What’s your beauty must-have?
Beauty begins with great skin and I am a diehard Dermalogica girl. Dermalogica products are scientifically proven, free of artificial fragrances, and not tested on animals (very important for me). I love their Daily Microfoliant and face masques, especially the Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque… we call it the date masque in the office! I keep my beauty routine pretty simple on the day-to-day, wearing just tinted moisturizer and mascara. I use essence I LOVE MASCARA, which is super affordable but high quality. Some of the makeup artists I work with compare it to DIOR but it is literally a fraction of the cost and is easily available at Shoppers. For events and parties, I ramp up my beauty routine with a cat eye liquid liner, even more mascara, and an orange or red lip. I really like NARS Chubby Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square, or classic Chanel lipstick in Rouge Allure.
What beauty/style trends are you excited for this year?
My personal style is bohemian mixed with rocker chic. I just ordered a pair of Anine Bing cowboy boots from LA that I cannot wait to arrive. For fall 2013, I’m loving the punk trend as seen everywhere from the Met Gala to runway shows like Rodarte, Prabal Gurung and Alexander Wang. On my lust list? A pair of leather pants.
What’s your favourite spa or service?
I use my yoga mat as my spa service most of the time but for the odd indulgence nothing beats a good massage.
What’s the one – yes, just one – product you can’t live without?
Dermalogica Sheer Tint in medium. It’s a tinted moisturizer with SPF… so it’s basically a three-in-one. Perfect for someone like me who is always on the go. I know you said one but… I am also obsessed with my SunWarrior Raw Vegan Protein Powder. I have it in the morning with almond milk and blueberries and it keeps me going till a late lunch. And of course, as any publicist will tell you, my iPhone.
