Matt Granite is the cheerfully cheap character behind TV’s Ways 2 Save. A savant of all things thrifty, Matt enjoys Korean food, his certifiably insane canine companion (it’s on Prozac), and frightening small children with his peppy persona… well, maybe not that last bit. Let’s see what else this budget-friendly Toronto boy is all about…
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
I consume inordinate amounts of food. When I go to order at a restaurant the server often walks away after taking just my personal order assuming the food I ordered just for myself is actually for the entire table.
How did you get involved in television and how did Ways 2 Save start?
I have an awful attention span and hosting a national savings segment allows me to concentrate on one city and one interesting thing at a time. I started Ways 2 Save because I am extremely cheap and wanted to help people during life’s tougher economic times.
What do you love most about a great deal?
The prompt wave of pride – any deal with instant gratification that doesn’t involve a voucher, another pedicure or something that is truly at least 60% off provides me with the utmost satisfaction. I also love sampling new gadgets before they catch on.
Finish this sentence: I love my city because…
…of the people, places, food and culture all crammed into a very well laid out space.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
The internet so I can stay connected to great websites like this, scout deals, and stay in touch with family and friends all over the place. My dog because he’s the only being that’s always happy to see me. Korean food because I enjoy eating heaven.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
My favorite restaurant is a hidden gem of a Korean restaurant called Mot Na Son – one of the most unassuming, inexpensive and brilliant amalgamations of everything good you can put on a plate. You can find this family-run joint of joyful existence in uptown Toronto.
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
My favorite drink is bubble tea. I do not consume alcohol or caffeine because most people consider me overly pepped up at all hours of the day. Alcohol or caffeine would only make that worse.
Who’s your favourite designer/brand and why do you sport their fashions?
My favorite designer clothing tags are the ones that say ‘sale’. That is my only fashion requisite.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with all your deal hunting?
I can be found tweeting deals and answering money questions. If you hate Twitter you can also keep track of my cheapness on my website.
